The Butterfly
With numerous references to classic monster movies, a frightened reporter voice over, and extended jamming, Chrome Rhino's The Butterfly, from the album, I Think They're After Me, was an obvious choice to build a music video around. After the band and I decided to imitate 50s b movies, I began work on storyboards, concept art, miniatures, and stop motion sets.
Behind the Scenes
Eventually, a green screen studio was chosen to film the band and cast. Compositing backgrounds and FX (using b&w filters and a lot of diffusion) was the final step, ensuring the world of The Butterfly was a consistent homage to films like Them, Godzilla, and of course, Mothra.
